Follicare

Follicare Follicare® is a hair care system of oral and topically applied products formulated to help slow the effects of hair loss and promote hair growth. Follicare® products include a nutritional supplement, a topical spray, a nutrient shampoo, and 5% Extra Strength Minoxidil. Minoxidil, also known as Rogaine®, is an FDA-approved medication for hair loss treatment.

Minoxidil is available over the counter without prescription for men and women to treat male or female pattern baldness. Minoxidil 2% is the only hair loss drug for women approved by the FDA. Follicare® may be used by men and women, although Follicare® For Women comes with 2% Minoxidil.

Male or female pattern baldness, known as Androgenetic alopecia (AGA), is a common form of hair loss in men and women. Male pattern baldness is caused by an overproduction of the androgenic hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a potent form of testosterone known to stimulate prostate growth and scalp hair loss. An enzyme produced in the prostate, adrenal glands and scalp, called 5-alpha-reductase, metabolizes the male hormone testosterone into DHT.

Follicare® products contain nutrients such as saw palmetto, zinc, nettles, pumpkin seed extract, and fo ti root, that block the damaging effects of 5-alpha-reductase and stop the production of DHT. "Topical absorption of DHT blockers is enhanced using a patented liposome system that delivers key ingredients directly to the follicle," states the manufacturer, on its website. Follicare® also contains natural vasodilators such as niacin, hawthorn berry, rosemary and ginkgo biloba, to help promote blood flow to the scalp.

Minoxidil's side effects can include minor symptoms such as scalp itching and irritation or a temporary increase in hair loss. Rare side effects can occur such as chest pain, faintness or dizziness, fast or irregular heart beat, sudden weight gain, or swollen face, hands or feet. The use of minoxidil may interfere with other medical problems or prescription drugs. You should consult with your doctor before using any product containing minoxidil. Other side effects associated with Follicare® may include a mild tingling sensation and reddening of the scalp which should dissipate after about 30 minutes.

Follicare® products need to be used for at least 6 to 12 weeks to experience results. To maintain the desired results, the product must be continued.
